Day 2 : MARCH 7

Day 1 of the Build

Last updated 5/16/2008, 10:44 AM

We have arrived! Well…kind of.  After successfully making it across the Causeway, we had a 50/50 chance of  taking the correct turn and we of course, took the wrong one and found ourselves driving through the back streets of New Orleans within our 35 foot RV and trailer in tow. Needless to say, we had MANY interesting looks! J
Today we also traversed over the narrowest and tallest bridge any of us had ever been on, the Huey P. Long bridge was a railroad bridge they turned into a car bridge and is barely wide enough for two cars….let alone us with our big RV! It was quite scary actually, but was the only way to get to the hero site.
When we arrived on site today, we met with the fire and police chiefs and toured the old home of the family we are rebuilding for.  We had some great discussions of how difficult a job it was for them to all have to lie to their two fireman friends and it made for incredible conversation and we have even been invited to a traditional Louisiana Jambalaya cookout with them this weekend…weather permitting!
The gracious neighbors opened the doors to our ND crew and courtesy of Moe’s Pizza, we ate the BEST pizza we have ever had!
