FACTS

HISTORY: The Harbor House, originally built in the 1930s, was donated to Access in 2001. Since then it has served as a home and learning center for area youth with special needs. The building is no longer inhabitable and the foundation has deteriorated. A new structure will be built on the site for clients in the corporate foster care program of Access of the Red River Valley. FACTS ABOUT THE NEW HOME:
  • Three, three bedroom units
  • Has created a family-style environment for nine children and young adults
  • The units share a learning center
  • All units are universally-equipped to allow for physical disabilities
  • Built on the site of the now outdated Harbor House in Moorhead, Minn.
 THE BUILDING PROJECT:·        The building process was projected to take 100 days & it took 100 days·        All building time and expertise was be donated·        Heritage Homes orchestrated the building project·        Seventeen area trade professionals donated time and talent to complete the project DONATIONS ARE NEEDED:
  • $500,000 total funds are needed for materials and furnishings; $200,000 has already been raised, and another $200,000 in cash donations is sought to complete the project, from both corporate and individual donors.
  • Most of the individual contributions will go towards furnishing the homes for the nine new residents.

 ABOUT ACCESS OF THE RED RIVER VALLEY: Access of the Red River Valley is a not-for-profit agency formed in 1984 by a group of parents who wanted to keep their children in a family setting and out of institutional care. The services provided by Access enable each individual to live a full life within the community.  Access has served more than 300 children and adults in both Cass and Clay counties and currently employs 175 people throughout the community. The office of Access of the Red River Valley is on the 5th floor of the US Bank Building (formerly the Tree Top) in downtown Moorhead, at 403 Center Avenue. Services offered through Access:Behavioral Management Services, currently serving 200 children with:
  • Child Care Support Services
  • Children’s Therapeutic Support Services
  • In-home Behavior Support (a Super Nanny program utilizing in-home video equipment donated by Best Buy Corporation)
  • Rule 79 Case Management (Minnesota Rule 79 establishing standards)
 In-Home Services, currently serving 80 individuals with:
  • Independent Living Services
  • In-home Family Support
  • Personal Care Attendant
  • Respite
  • Private Duty Nurse
  • Semi-Independent Living Skills
  • Supported Living Services
  • Foster Care
  • Traumatic Brain Injury Services
  • Mental Health Case Management
