Grand Opening

Heritage Homes and other area trade professionals help Access of the Red River Valley open the doors to their new home in 100 days. The spirit of giving will create a family environment for nine youth (Fargo, N.D.)—Access of the Red River Valley and Heritage Homes joined with area trade professionals, friends and employees to celebrate the grand opening and the official finale of a 100 day build that creates a “family” for nine area children and young adults. Fargo-based builder Heritage Homes and 17 local trades donated their time and talent over the last 100 days to transform the former Harbor House site in Moorhead, Minn. into a three-plex. Each three-bedroom unit is universally-equipped, and the three units share a central learning center. “We started this project knowing that we want to continue helping teenagers and young adults with emotional, physical and developmental disabilities have their own  place to call home,” stated Ron Odden, Executive Director of Access of the Red River Valley. “We completed this structure that makes us a bigger family. We are giving them a home, not just a house.” The project is being funding purely through donations. Working with both corporate sponsors and individuals, Access of the Red River Valley raised $300,000 of the $500,000 needed.  Access’s hope is to ensure that the project will be mortgage free, allowing the non-profit organization to concentrate on delivering services across the metro area. Anyone interested in donating can visit www.heritagefargo.com/100days to see a complete listing of items needed, including furniture and household items to furnish the structure and monetary donations to fund the project expenses. This project involves many of the same professionals who participated in a 100 hour build in Minot in 2006, as part of ABC Television’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. “After our experience with Extreme Makeover: Home Edition last August, we knew as a company that this is something we should continue, even if ABC is not here,” stated Tyrone Leslie, Chief Operating Officer of Heritage Homes. “This time around, we are giving the gift of a home to a brand new family, a family that will evolve and continue for many years. And, just like we did for Minot, we invite you to check www.heritagefargo.com/100days for photos and weekly updates from the past 100 days.” - more - About Access of the Red River ValleyAccess of the Red River Valley is a not-for-profit agency formed in 1984 by a group of parents who wanted to keep their children in a family setting, out of institutional care.
